We had an amazing time at Cosmic Brewery Saturday night, taking part in World Space week. Our telescope views and live astroimages were a big hit! Plus, it was cool to rub shoulders with bright scientists, engineers, and space-enthusiasts from NASA JPL, Virgin Galactic, The Planetary Society, Spaceport L.A, Yuri’s Night and Columbia Memorial Space Center.
Our live imaging rig was able to overcome what we’d call a TON of light pollution! Remarkably, we managed to grab some live color images of M13 and M57. At one point we could see the white dwarf (central star) in M57. That’d normally be a piece of cake from a dark sky.. but from Torrance, and under multiple halogen lamps.. we were pleasantly surprised at the level of detail we could see.
Jarred’s telescope view of Saturn was a hit as usual. A guest captured one of the better smartphone images of Saturn that I’ve seen.
